EU NAVFOR re-affirms regional commitments following 43rd SHADE

Regional commitments continue to be the cornerstone of success in maintaining maritime security. Hot on the heels of the 43rd SHADE where “debate ensued on how to improve information sharing with the Omani representative highlighting the opportunities for the future” EU NAVFOR has re-visited the port of Salalah in Oman.

At the end of November, the Commanding Officer of EU NAVFOR’s warship, ITS Federico Martinengo, took part in several office calls with authorities in the port. During time with Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, H.E. Sayyid Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Busaid, Oman confirmed itself to be a key regional play for stability in the area, being fully committed to having good relationships with neighbouring countries.

Further conversations with the Commander of the Southern Naval Area, Capt. Nasser Bin Saif Al Shabibi, demonstrated the Omani commitment to maritime security and plans were made for further interactions between EU NAVFOR and the Royal Navy of Oman’s warships at sea. Such opportunities are always envisaged and welcomed by EU NAVFOR, since they allow the testing of interoperability among forces and improve the cooperation in place with partners.
