French Frigate NIVÔSE departs EU NAVFOR Task Force after a four month deployment.

The French Frigate NIVÔSE has completed a four month deployment as part of the EU NAVFOR Somalia Task Force.

During her deployment she disrupted numerous pirate action groups (PAGs) operating in the Indian Ocean, detaining many pirates and contributed extensively to the security and co-ordination of the Internationally Recognised Transit Corridor (IRTC) within the Gulf of Aden.

The EU NAVFOR Force Commander Rear Admiral (LH) Jan Thörnqvist said: “Your co-operative spirit and prompt attitude constituted an outstanding example for all EU NAVFOR crew.”

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Programme (WFP) and vessels of  African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM and to protect vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR also monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
