During a port visit to Muscat, Oman, Operation Atalanta naval officers welcomed staff from the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) on board the EU Naval Force flagship, HNLMS Tromp.

Operation Atalanta’s Spanish Warship, ESPS Santa Maria, has completed a Replenishment At Sea (RAS) with the American tanker, USNS Laramie, whilst conducting counter-piracy work in the waters off Somalia.

Whilst on a recent port visit to Salalah, HNLMS Tromp’s commanding officer, Commander Schipper, welcomed Captain Sun Jing Dong from Chinese warship, PLA (People’s Liberation Army) Navy Ship Handan, on board.

Operation Atalanta’s counter-piracy Force Commander, Dutch Commodore Luyckx, recently visited the Commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, Rear Admiral Nam Dong Woo, aboard Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy warship, Munmu the Great.

On 18 September 2016 Operation Atalanta’s Serbian maritime protection team was awarded the Common Security and Defence Policy service medal in recognition of their outstanding work off the coast of Somalia as part of the EU’s counter-piracy Operation Atalanta.

Over the weekend, Operation Atalanta’s German Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) over flew Dutch flagship, HNLMS Tromp, at sea in the Gulf of Aden.

Operation Atalanta’s Spanish maritime patrol aircrew, based in Djibouti, fly air missions over the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden on a regular basis. Their key role is to keep a sharp look out over the sea and along the Somali coast for any potential pirate activity.

During their recent counter-piracy patrols, Italian sailors from Operation Atalanta’s warship, ITS Euro, met some Somali fishermen out at sea in the Gulf of Aden.

Operation Atalanta’s Spanish warship, ESPS Santa Maria, has been meeting Somali fishermen in the Gulf of Aden during routine patrols to protect the seas off Somalia from the threat of piracy.

World Food Programme (WFP) chartered vessel, MV Douro, is operating in the waters off Somalia with an embarked Serbian Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment (AVPD).

Operation Atalanta’s Dutch Force Commander, Commodore Luyckx, recently spent time aboard the Japanese warship JDS Suzutsuki.

The Royal Netherlands Navy warship Tromp is the current Flagship of counter-piracy Operation Atalanta.

HNLMS Tromp, the Dutch Flagship of counter-piracy Operation Atalanta, has provided training to the Bossasso Port Authorities in Puntland, Somalia. Representatives from the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) were on hand throughout the day to answer questions and provide support.

The Italian warship ITS Euro has recently escorted World Food Programme (WFP) chartered vessel MV Apollonas in the Gulf of Aden. When chartered by the WFP, the vessel transports food-aid around the region.

During one of her counter-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia, sailors from Operation Atalanta Italian warship, ITS Euro, recently met the crew of a dhow that was transporting livestock from Somalia to the Middle East.
