As a new step in the collaboration between EU NAVFOR and Kenya, the French Flagship DE GRASSE welcomed five young Kenyan Navy officers on board for a day at sea.
The Kenyan Naval officers embarked on 5 September from Mombasa, had the opportunity to visit the ship and to participate in the training organized for the crew. “Man overboard” drills were conducted and the Kenyan officers had the opportunity to fire small calibre guns on floating targets (picture).
Their presence on board has made it possible to develop mutual knowledge and understanding between the two Navies, which is a key factor for success in EU NAVFOR collaboration strategy with Kenya.
The Kenyan Navy is a key partner in the area and its engagement in the fight against piracy is a determining factor to ensure maritime security in the long term.
