Operation Atalanta’s German flagship, FGS Bayern, recently spent time alongside in the port of Muscat in Oman. During the visit, the Force Commander, Rear Admiral Kaack, was invited to spend time with the Royal Navy of Oman.
The visit was an opportunity to update delegates from the Royal Navy of Oman about Operation Atalanta and the EU Naval Force’s continuing efforts to deter and disrupt piracy in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean.
On the invitation of the German Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Hans-Christian Freiherr von Reibnitz, the Force Commander and members of FGS Bayern’s crew also attended a reception at the German Embassy in Muscat. Again, they were able to inform guests about the progress of Op Atalanta and answer questions regarding the counter-piracy operation.
It is vital for Op Atalanta to work closely with regional partners in order to help ensure that the waters of the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean remain safe for all seafarers, with no hiding place for pirates.
