Between EU NAVFOR and Combined Maritime Forces there are 52 nations that are providing support to ongoing counter-piracy, maritime security and protection of World Food Programme tasks off the coast of Somalia, in the Gulf of Aden and into the Somali Basin.
As part of this work EU NAVFOR’s Spanish Warship ESPS Patiño has been operating in the region since December 2017 and has provided a steady stream of fuel, water and supplies to regional partners. Recently Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Alamgir received her fuel and water during a Replenishment at Sea (RAS), she is part of CTF151 also tasked with counter-piracy duties.
The ongoing presence, cooperation and coordination of all partners in the region is vital and the efforts of so many nations in the region plus the independent nations who deploy, including China and India, continue to see positive results. However, vigilance is still required and the work goes on.
