This morning at 09:00hrs local time a small Dutch cargo vessel of 2500 tons was hijacked probably by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden while sailing westbound in the transit corridor. The vessel, with eight crew onboard and a cargo of coke, has now altered course towards Somalia.

A UK owned bulk carrier, carrying a load of 35.000 tons of soya, was hijacked today at first daylight in a position approximately 250 nautical miles South-West of the Seychelles. The crew is believed to be unhurt.

Nine suspected pirates were apprehended by the EU NAVFOR Spanish warship NUMANCIA 200 miles north of the Seychelles in the India Ocean shortly after the attack on the cruise liner MSC MELODY last Sunday.

A 31,000 tonnes German owned grain carrier was hijacked in the eastern end of the Gulf of Aden overnight. The 17 man crew are believed to be unhurt and shipping has been warned to stay clear of the area for fear of further attacks.
